Looking for a super simple, incredibly fun, and irresistibly festive treat that will delight everyone this holiday season? These Christmas Tree Rice Krispie Treats are your ultimate solution! Perfect for last-minute parties, school events, or just a cozy family night, these adorable, vibrant green trees are not only a breeze to make but also incredibly appealing to kids and adults alike. Forget complicated baking; these no-bake wonders offer maximum holiday cheer with minimal effort, making them a true lifesaver for busy holiday schedules.
Why Rice Krispie Treats Are a Holiday Hero
We all experience those moments during the bustling holiday season: an unexpected Christmas party invitation, a school event that slipped your mind, or a sudden craving for something sweet and festive. In these instances, traditional baking can feel daunting and time-consuming. This is where Rice Krispie Treats truly shine, acting as the ultimate holiday dessert hero. As a food blogger who understands the pressures of both creating delicious recipes and managing a busy family life, I often turn to these classic treats for their undeniable simplicity and versatility.
Their appeal goes far beyond just ease of preparation. For families navigating food allergies, especially nut allergies, Rice Krispie Treats are often a safe and delightful option, ensuring that more children can partake in the holiday fun without worry. Moreover, these treats are remarkably neat. When toddlers (or even enthusiastic adults!) enjoy them, you won’t find yourself wrestling with sticky messes on clothes, tables, or floors, saving precious time and effort on cleanup – a true blessing during the hectic holiday period.
The Simplest Christmas Tree Shape
While many festive Rice Krispie treat variations exist, often involving intricate cone shapes, this method for creating Christmas trees is incomparably simpler and yields equally charming results. The beauty of this approach lies in its straightforward steps: infuse your classic Rice Krispie mixture with a vibrant green hue, press it into a pan, cut it into delightful triangles, and then gently insert a pretzel stick to form the tree trunk. The entire process transforms ordinary treats into festive works of art with minimal fuss, making it accessible for even novice bakers or those short on time.
You might think the most challenging part would be the cutting or shaping, but surprisingly, it’s often ensuring those delicate pretzel sticks don’t snap when inserted. But don’t let that deter you! With a little gentle yet firm pressure, you’ll master it in no time. Should a pretzel stick happen to break, consider it a delightful “taste-testing” opportunity or simply use the shorter piece for a quaint, stubby tree trunk. It’s truly a win-win situation!
Achieving the Perfect Tree Cut
Visualizing how to transform a rectangular pan of Rice Krispie treats into an array of perfect Christmas trees can sometimes be tricky. To simplify this, imagine your cooled, sprinkle-adorned Rice Krispie slab. Start by making one long cut down the middle, dividing the pan into two equal halves lengthwise. Then, take each half and cut them into alternating triangles. For instance, cut a triangle from one side, then flip your cutting direction for the next cut, creating another triangle from the other side, and so on. This strategic cutting method maximizes your yield and minimizes waste. You’ll likely end up with a couple of half-tree scraps from the ends of each row – these are designated for the chef’s prerogative: essential quality control and taste testing!
This method is significantly easier and more efficient than using a cookie cutter, which often results in more waste and extra effort. The beauty of geometric simplicity makes these treats not only delightful to look at but also incredibly practical to prepare in large batches for holiday gatherings. The yield will naturally vary depending on how slender or wide you prefer your trees, but typically, one 9×13-inch pan generously provides between 16 to 20 festive Christmas trees.
Recipe Note
Yield will depend on how skinny you cut your trees. You should be able to cut 16-20 trees from one pan.

A Kid-Favorite with a Fun Twist
These Christmas Tree Rice Krispie Treats are an absolute sensation with children – they are genuinely obsessed! The vibrant green food coloring, while making these treats undeniably festive, also leads to a hilariously charming side effect: green mouths! For kids, this is often an added layer of fun, a playful, temporary transformation that adds to the magic of the holiday season. It’s these small, unexpected joys that make holiday memories so special and enduring. And yes, while green food coloring might make its way onto other surfaces, let’s just focus on the smiles and laughter it brings, shall we? It’s all part of the festive experience!
More Delightful Holiday Treat Inspirations

These are always a hit and look fantastic on any dessert table.
For the chocolate lovers in your life, you absolutely must try these Christmas Tree Brownie Bites. Starting with a boxed brownie mix makes them incredibly easy, yet the tree shape and festive decorations make them look like you spent hours in the kitchen. They offer that rich, satisfying chocolate fix everyone craves during the holidays.
And speaking of adorable, these Santa Hat Brownies are among the cutest holiday treats I’ve ever laid eyes on. However, they face stiff competition from these charming Reindeer Cupcakes, which capture the festive spirit perfectly. Why choose when you can enjoy both? Let’s just call it a tie and indulge in these irresistible holiday delights!
When time is truly of the essence and fussing over intricate designs isn’t an option, remember the power of classic, crowd-pleasing treats. And for a twist on the traditional, plain Rice Krispie Treats can become instantly festive with just a generous sprinkle of multi-colored holiday sprinkles. For a quick and elegant three-ingredient marvel, Rolo Pretzels are a fantastic choice, taking mere minutes to assemble and looking wonderfully festive.
Conquering the Holiday Treat Challenge
With these incredibly simple and adorable Christmas Tree Rice Krispie Treats in your repertoire, you truly have no excuse not to be “that mom” (or dad, or friend, or colleague!) who brings the most charming treats to any holiday gathering. Of course, life happens, and between juggling kids, desperately needing sleep, and navigating the general craziness of the holiday season, fantastic excuses are abundant. But rest assured, these delightful Rice Krispie treat Christmas trees are well within your reach. They require minimal time, effort, and ingredients, delivering maximum festive impact and joy. You absolutely can do it! Embrace the ease, celebrate the fun, and enjoy the smiles these treats will bring.
P.S. For the best vibrant green color, I highly recommend using gel food coloring. It provides a richer hue without thinning your mixture.

20 cookies
Ingredients
-
3 tablespoons unsalted butter -
1 pkg. (10 oz.) marshmallows ( about 40 regular sized, or 4 cups mini marshmallows) -
green food coloring -
6 cups Rice Krispies toasted rice cereal -
sprinkles -
20 small pretzel sticks
Instructions
-
Grease or spray a 9×13-inch pan and set aside.
-
In a large pan, melt butter and marshmallows over medium-low heat, stirring constantly. Once it’s almost smooth and melted, add green food coloring little by little until you achieve your desired tree color. Once completely smooth and perfectly green, remove from heat and immediately stir in Rice Krispies cereal. Continue to stir until all the cereal is evenly coated.
-
Press the mixture evenly into the prepared pan. (A pro tip: spray your hand with nonstick cooking spray or use a piece of wax paper to prevent sticking). Immediately sprinkle with festive sprinkles for decoration. Allow the treats to cool and set for at least 30 minutes.
-
Once cooled, make one long cut down the middle of the pan lengthwise. Then, cut each of those two rows into triangles, creating your tree shapes. (You should have 4 small scraps leftover from the ends, perfect for a chef’s snack!)
-
Gently insert a pretzel stick into the bottom of each triangle to form the tree trunk.
Notes
- Normally, for classic Rice Krispie treats, I suggest pressing them into the pan very lightly. However, for these Christmas trees, press the mixture a little more firmly. This helps them hold their shape better and prevents crumbling when cut and handled.
