Indulge in the Best Crab Rangoon Dip

Do you love the perfect bite of a crab rangoon? The satisfying crunch of the
crispy wrapper, the rich, creamy crab filling accented with green onions,
and the sweet/tart kick of chili sauce? This Crab Rangoon Dip captures all
those fantastic flavors and elevates them to a new level!

This crab rangoon dip is an absolute showstopper! You
won’t believe how incredibly delicious it is. It’s the kind of dish that
makes you close your eyes and savor every spoonful. Prepare to be lost for
words because it’s simply that good. Be sure to invite friends and family,
because you’ll want to devour the whole thing!

Easier than traditional crab rangoon. While traditional
crab rangoons are fantastic, this dip is much easier to make, making it
perfect for gatherings. You can check out a great air fryer recipe for
crab rangoon
if you want to try the classic version, but you’ll have to assemble each
one individually. This dip, on the other hand, is significantly
less time-consuming, while still delivering that same incredible flavor.

What is Imitation Crab?

Imitation crab is a processed seafood product, typically made from
pollock, a type of fish. This processed fish is called surimi.
Additional ingredients like water, starch, sugar, vegetable oil, salt,
and various additives are included. According to
Healthline, it’s often referred to as the “hot dog of the sea.”

Ingredient Spotlight

  • Crab Meat: You can use either real crab meat or
imitation crab in this recipe. While real crab is more nutritious,
with no added fillers, imitation crab is a budget-friendly option and
easier to find. It also tends to have less sodium than real crab. I
often opt for imitation crab in my
    crab pasta salad.
  • Cheeses Galore: The base of this dip is made with
cream cheese (use regular or reduced-fat, but not nonfat), with
mozzarella and Parmesan cheese added for extra gooey deliciousness.
Remember to let your cream cheese soften to room temperature before
    you begin.
  • Mayonnaise and Sour Cream: These two add-ins help
smooth out the dip, creating that perfect dippable consistency. Lower-fat
versions of mayo and sour cream work well, but avoid nonfat varieties.
  • Flavor Enhancers: A combination of green onions,
Worcestershire sauce, garlic, and sriracha provides that authentic
    crab rangoon flavor.
  • Wonton Wrappers: To create the perfect dippers, cut
wonton wrappers in half and bake them until they are wonderfully
crispy. Crackers or tortilla chips are also excellent alternatives.

How to Make This Irresistible Crab Rangoon Dip

Prepare the Dippers: If you’re using wonton wrappers,
bake them first to achieve maximum crispiness. Simply cut a stack of
wrappers diagonally, creating perfect little triangles.

Arrange the wonton triangles in a single layer on a large baking sheet.
Lightly spray them with olive oil or nonstick spray, and then bake them in
the oven for a few minutes.

They brown quickly, so keep a close eye on them to prevent burning.

Combine Cream Cheese, Sour Cream, and Mayo: While the
wonton wrappers are crisping up, start on the dip. In a large mixing
bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise. Stir
thoroughly until the cream cheese is completely blended into the sour
cream and mayo. If needed, use an electric mixer to ensure it’s perfectly
smooth.

Add the Remaining Ingredients: Add the shredded crab meat
(ensure it’s shredded into small pieces first!) to the bowl. Then, add
the mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, green onions, Worcestershire sauce,
garlic, and sriracha. Mix everything well until everything is evenly
distributed throughout the mixture.

Transfer to Baking Dish: Spread the dip evenly into a
flat baking dish. Sprinkle the top with a half cup of shredded mozzarella
cheese. Don’t worry if you’ve already mixed some into the dip; it
always seems to happen! Add extra cheese on top – more cheese is always a
good thing!

Bake: Place the baking dish into the oven and bake the
dip until it’s warmed through and the cheese is melted and bubbly,
approximately 20 to 25 minutes. The edges of the dip should be lightly
golden. It’s best not to overbake the dip, as it tends to separate if
overcooked.

Serve: If desired, drizzle the top of the dip with
sweet chili sauce. Serve immediately with the homemade wonton chips and
additional sweet chili sauce on the side for dipping.

Crab Rangoon Dip Recipe Variations

  • Microwave Method: If you’d rather not use your oven,
heat the dip in your microwave on high for a few minutes, or until the
cheese is melted and the dip is heated through. Be sure to use a
    microwave-safe serving dish.
  • Serve it Chilled: If you enjoy cold dips, you can
serve this crab rangoon dip chilled. Simply skip the baking step and
serve it cold. Either option works great! A chilled dip is especially
refreshing on a warm summer day.
  • Alternative Dippers: Instead of using baked wonton
wrappers, try baked tortilla chips or air fryer tortilla chips as
dippers. This Crab Rangoon Dip is suitable for keto and gluten-free
diets as long as you use ketogenic, gluten-free chips or crackers.

Make-Ahead Tips

Prepare the dip ahead of time but do not bake it. Cover the dish and
refrigerate for up to two days. When you’re ready to bake, remove the dish
from the fridge, preheat your oven, and bake as directed.

The wonton chips can also be prepared in advance. Cool them completely and
store them in a zip-top bag or a plastic container.

Storage Guidelines

You can refrigerate any leftover dip for up to two days. Reheat it in the
microwave in 30-second intervals until it is warm.

Keep in mind that if the dip has been sitting out at your gathering for a
couple of hours or more, it’s best to discard it.
