While most traditional wine spritzers offer a straightforward, two-ingredient approach – typically an inexpensive wine and a carbonated mixer – they often fall short of inspiring. These simple concoctions, while refreshing and similar in spirit to a hard seltzer, can sometimes lack depth and personality. My journey to elevate the humble spritzer led to the creation of something truly special: a beautiful, vibrant cocktail that transcends the ordinary and offers a memorable sensory experience. This recipe transforms the everyday into the extraordinary, proving that a little creativity can go a long way in cocktail crafting.

We’re taking the classic concept and giving it a glorious upgrade, infusing it with layers of fresh fruit flavor and a sophisticated kick that sets it apart from its simpler predecessors.

A Masterpiece of Flavor and Finesse

What makes this particular spritzer so extraordinary? It’s the thoughtful combination of fresh raspberries and sweet raspberry jam, creating an intensely fruity base that sings with authentic berry notes. This rich fruit foundation alone elevates the drink far beyond the standard blend of wine and club soda. But we don’t stop there. The addition of a measure of quality vodka transforms this sparkling drink into a genuine cocktail, adding a smooth warmth and enhancing its complexity. The result is a drink that’s both delightfully refreshing and undeniably luxurious, a true testament to the art of mixology.

Crafting Your Raspberry Rosé Cocktail: A Simple Guide

Whipping up this exquisite cocktail is remarkably simple and quick, taking only about five minutes from start to finish. You won’t need any specialized or complex equipment; just a few basic tools will suffice to create a truly delicious drink.

Step-by-Step Preparation:

  1. Combine and Muddle the Fresh Flavors: Begin by gathering your fresh raspberries, raspberry jam, and mint leaves. Place these three vibrant ingredients into a cocktail shaker or a small, sturdy jar. Using a muddler, gently but firmly press and twist the ingredients together. If you don’t have a muddler, the back of a wooden spoon works perfectly. Continue muddling for about 15 seconds, just enough to break down the berries and release their juices, along with the aromatic oils from the mint. This step is crucial for extracting maximum flavor.

  1. Infuse with Vodka: Once muddled, add a shot of your preferred vodka to the shaker or jar. Stir the mixture gently to combine the vodka with the raspberry and mint infusion. You can give it another light muddle if you wish to further enhance the integration of flavors.

  1. Strain for Perfection: Carefully pour the muddled mixture through a fine mesh sieve directly into an elegant stemmed glass. Press firmly on the solids in the sieve to extract every last drop of flavorful juice. This ensures a smooth, clear, and intensely flavored raspberry base for your cocktail, free from any pulp or seeds.
  2. Top and Garnish: Finish your spritzer by topping the raspberry purée with well-chilled sparkling rosé, filling the glass to your desired level. For a beautiful presentation, garnish with a few fresh raspberries or a crisp mint leaf. For a playful touch, especially around holidays like Valentine’s Day, tiny heart sprinkles can add a whimsical charm. Serve immediately and enjoy the sparkling, fruity goodness!

Ingredient Spotlight: Choosing the Best for Your Spritzer

The success of any great cocktail lies in the quality of its ingredients. For this Raspberry Rosé Spritzer, a few carefully selected components come together to create a symphony of flavors and aromas.

  • Fresh Raspberries: These ruby-red jewels are the heart of our spritzer. You’ll only need a small handful—about 4 to 5 berries per serving—to impart their naturally sweet and tart essence. Choose ripe, firm raspberries for the best flavor and vibrant color.
  • Raspberry Jam or Preserves: The jam adds a deeper, more concentrated raspberry flavor and a touch of sweetness that balances the tartness of the fresh berries. Seedless jam is often preferred for a smoother texture, but any high-quality raspberry jam or preserve will work wonderfully. Brands like Bonne Maman are excellent choices for their authentic fruit taste.
  • Fresh Mint Leaves: Just a couple of large mint leaves are all it takes to introduce a subtle, refreshing herbaceous note to the cocktail. The mint is lightly muddled to release its fragrant oils without overpowering the delicate berry and rosé flavors. Remember to save a few extra leaves for an elegant garnish! If you find yourself with leftover mint, consider using it in a refreshing quinoa chickpea salad or a flavorful marinated lamb chops recipe.
  • Vodka: The vodka acts as the fortifying spirit, elevating this spritzer to a true cocktail. While you should use a brand you enjoy, a mid-range vodka is often ideal since it will be mixed with other robust flavors. Tito’s Handmade Vodka is a popular and reliable choice for many mixed drinks due to its smooth profile.
  • Sparkling Rosé: This is the sparkling star of our drink! Whether you prefer a sweet or dry rosé is entirely up to your personal taste. The best sparkling rosé for this recipe is one you would happily sip on its own. Its effervescence and delicate fruit notes provide the perfect backdrop for the muddled raspberry and mint, creating a light, bubbly, and utterly delightful experience.

Tailor Your Spritzer: Creative Recipe Variations

One of the beauties of this Raspberry Rosé Spritzer recipe is its adaptability. While the classic version is undeniably delicious, there are numerous ways to customize it to suit your taste or what you have on hand. Feel free to experiment and make this cocktail uniquely yours!

  • Substitutes for Sparkling Rosé: Don’t have sparkling rosé? No problem! You have a couple of excellent options. You can use a regular still rosé wine and combine it with an equal part of club soda for that effervescent touch. Alternatively, a sparkling white wine like Champagne or Prosecco will also work beautifully, though your final cocktail will likely have a slightly lighter hue and perhaps a different nuanced flavor profile.
  • Explore Different Berry and Jam Combinations: The raspberry and jam pairing is fantastic, but the possibilities are endless! Imagine a luscious strawberry spritzer made with fresh strawberries and strawberry jam, or a rich blackberry version with fresh blackberries and blackberry jam. Cherry jam with fresh cherries also makes for an exquisite combination. Let your favorite seasonal berries and preserves inspire your next spritzer creation!
  • Adjusting the Alcohol Content:
    • Lower Alcohol: For a lighter cocktail that still offers a delightful kick, simply omit the vodka. The sparkling rosé, fresh berries, and mint will still create a wonderfully refreshing drink with a lower alcohol content.
    • Non-Alcoholic (N/A) Option: To create a delicious mocktail, substitute the vodka with a non-alcoholic (N/A) vodka alternative. For the sparkling element, choose your favorite N/A sparkling rosé or a raspberry-flavored sparkling water. This ensures everyone can enjoy a vibrant, sophisticated drink, regardless of their preference for alcohol.
  • Citrus Boost: A squeeze of fresh lemon or lime juice can add an extra layer of brightness and zest to the spritzer, perfectly complementing the berry flavors.
  • Herbaceous Twist: While mint is a classic, consider muddling other fresh herbs like basil or even a tiny sprig of rosemary for a unique aromatic experience.

Making Ahead & Expert Tips

While this cocktail is incredibly quick to prepare, some aspects can be considered for efficiency, though the ultimate recommendation is to serve it freshly made for the best sparkling experience. The vibrant flavors and effervescence are at their peak when assembled just before serving.

Optimal Enjoyment: Fresh is Best

Honestly, the Raspberry Rosé Spritzer truly shines when crafted right before you plan to enjoy it. The sparkling rosé retains its fizz, and the fresh fruit notes are most pronounced. Since it only takes about five minutes to prepare each drink, the “make-ahead” aspect largely revolves around preparation, not assembly. Ensure all your ingredients are thoroughly chilled – particularly the sparkling rosé and vodka – and have your fresh raspberries washed and ready to go. You can also pre-measure your jam and mint leaves, so the actual mixing process is seamless and swift.

Tips for Success:

  • Chill Everything: Always start with well-chilled ingredients. This not only makes the drink more refreshing but also prevents ice from melting too quickly and diluting your cocktail.
  • Taste and Adjust: After muddling and adding the vodka, taste a small amount of the raspberry base. Depending on the sweetness of your jam and raspberries, you might want to add a tiny splash of simple syrup for extra sweetness or a squeeze of lemon juice for more tang.
  • Muddle with Care: Don’t over-muddle the mint, as it can release bitter flavors. A light smash is all that’s needed to extract its essential oils.
  • Use Quality Ice: Large, clear ice cubes melt slower, keeping your drink colder for longer without excessive dilution.
  • Garnish Generously: A beautiful garnish of fresh raspberries and a mint sprig not only looks appealing but also adds to the aromatic experience of the cocktail.

Sparkling, fruity, and refreshing, a rosé spritzer is an exceptional cocktail, fortified with vodka and fresh raspberries!

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon raspberry jam
  • 3 to 5 fresh raspberries
  • 2 large fresh mint leaves
  • 1 ½ oz. vodka
  • 4 oz. sparkling rosé, chilled

Instructions

  • In a cocktail shaker (or small jar), combine the raspberry jam, fresh raspberries, and fresh mint leaves. Muddle them (with a muddler or end of a wooden spoon) until the berries are broken up— about 15 seconds.
1 tablespoon raspberry jam, 3 to 5 fresh raspberries, 2 large fresh mint leaves
  • Add vodka and stir or muddle a little more.
    1 ½ oz. vodka
  • Pour the muddled berries through a small fine mesh sieve into a glass. Make sure to push all of the juice out to get the full flavor!
  • Top with enough rosé to fill the glass. Garnish with fresh berries and mint.
    4 oz. sparkling rosé, chilled

Notes

  • Try a different berry. Any jam and berry combination will work in this recipe — strawberry, blackberry, cherry, even mixed berry!
  • Can’t find sparkling rosé? Substitute a 50/50 mix of regular rosé and club soda.
