Get ready to make this amazing salsa! A blender or food processor makes it super easy. This chipotle salsa perfectly combines smoky tomatoes and spicy chipotle peppers. You’ll want to make a big batch, so make sure you have plenty of tortilla chips! And maybe some beer or margaritas to enjoy with it!

The best part? You can whip this salsa up in about ten minutes.

About This Chipotle Salsa

Smoky Flavor: The delicious smoky flavor comes from two key ingredients: fire-roasted tomatoes and chipotle peppers in adobo sauce. Chipotle peppers are smoked and dried jalapeños, giving a bit of heat. The adobo sauce adds a tangy flavor that perfectly complements the peppers. They’re also amazing in this cherry chipotle BBQ sauce!

Experiment to find your preferred level of smokiness and heat. Two chipotle peppers usually works well.

Recipe Tip

Wondering what to do with leftover chipotle peppers? Place a couple of peppers with some sauce in individual snack-size zip-top bags and freeze them. Then you’ll have them ready for your next batch of salsa!

Freshness: This salsa bursts with flavor thanks to the addition of chopped onion, garlic, fresh cilantro, and lime juice. Blend until you achieve your desired salsa consistency. Perfect for scooping with tortilla chips or enjoying with this healthy Mexican lasagna.

What You’ll Need for This Blender Salsa

  • Fire Roasted Tomatoes – If you can’t find fire roasted tomatoes, regular diced tomatoes or whole tomatoes will work.
  • Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce – These are the secret ingredient! Don’t skip them!
  • Onion – A must-have in any great salsa.
  • Fresh Garlic – Garlic powder can be used as a substitute if you prefer a milder garlic taste (try 1/2 teaspoon).
  • Cilantro – Add as much or as little as you like, but I always load it up!
  • Fresh Lime Juice – Lime juice balances the flavors and brightens up the salsa.
  • Salt – A little salt is necessary to enhance all the flavors, but you won’t need much.

Customizing Your Salsa

While this recipe is delicious as is, here are some ways to customize it:

  • Add More Heat: Increase the amount of chipotle peppers for a spicier salsa.
  • Cilantro-Free: If you’re not a fan of cilantro, simply leave it out. The salsa will still be wonderful.
